The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Shift Comes After Mixed Feedback
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a distinct game identity.
The president stated that the developers is now refining the project with a revised vision, aiming to satisfy community desires.
Trend of Key Recruitment
This announcement mirrors a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Here is the entire message from Ismailer's announcement:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a more distinct identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to heart and reimagined the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our fans.
The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To advance the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming space is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable series in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in receiving him soon. We are all looking forward to keep observing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.
David

"Take on the competition with new abilities, stakes, and challenges that evolve every match. Will you safely extract with your collected items? Or go big, risk it all, and pray your group can earn top ranking? The choice is up to you."
The game lacks an official debut schedule or supported systems, but players can look forward to more updates as creation progresses.
